FACILITIES MAINTENANCE PART1 Classrooms in the Heat: Systemic Failures & Climate Control

When an AC system fails in early September, classrooms rapidly become unviable for instruction.

On September 2, 2026, Prairie View Elementary had to cancel classes due to an air conditioning failure. The very next day, both Prairie View Elementary and Goshen High School were forced into half-day schedules because classrooms were simply too hot during the heat wave.

These cooling failures caused immediate havoc for the local parents who had to scramble for childcare. It also created a frantic scramble for GCS bus drivers, who were called in last-minute to get those children home safe from an early school dismissal. School board members frequently speak about their commitment to student safety and achievement. However, these closures show the real-world consequence of a budget strategy that prioritizes luxury athletic facilities over foundational facility maintenance.
